Founders: Nick & Finn

We are delighted to introduce ourselves as the founders of Steady Harvest, a venture born out of our shared commitment to addressing the unique agricultural challenges of Northern Arizona. Our region, known for its unpredictable climate, brief growing seasons, and a notable absence of locally-crafted, geographically-tailored season extension structures, inspired us to embark on this journey. Our mission extends beyond business; we aim to foster a vibrant community of growers and enthusiasts. We’re eager to share our story with you and equally excited to hear yours in the very near future.

  • Nick Zachary

    I’m Nick Zachary, originally from Muncie, IN. My adventure began in 2015 when I moved to Flagstaff, AZ, a move that really kicked off my passion for environmental stewardship and outdoor education. When I first enrolled at Northern Arizona University (NAU), I was all set on a Forestry degree. But as my interests evolved, I found myself gravitating towards Parks & Recreation Management, where I proudly graduated cum laude. This program gave me a solid grounding in Outdoor Education & Leadership, while still letting me delve into Forestry.

    My career journey has been quite the mosaic of experiences. I’ve worked as a naturalist guide at Canyonlands Field Institute, where I got to share my love for the outdoors with others. Then there was my time at OVRLND Campers in Flagstaff, where I honed my skills in precision and craftsmanship. And let’s not forget the unforgettable experiences I had teaching at NOLS, which really solidified my passion for outdoor leadership.

    One thing I’ve always loved is exploring the vast and rugged landscapes of the American southwest. These backcountry adventures have not only been a personal passion but have also deepened my commitment to environmental education and awareness. I’ve always believed in blending analytical thinking with creative problem-solving, and this approach has been a huge part of what I bring to Steady Harvest. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m excited for what the future holds!

  • Finn Bingham

    I’m Finn Bingham, and my path from Missoula, MT, to Flagstaff, AZ, has been one filled with unexpected twists and a deep-rooted love for the great outdoors. I’ve always been a bit of a thinker and a doer – which is probably why I ended up with a philosophy degree. But don’t let that fool you; I’ve also got my hands dirty in wildland fire management, not to mention my time spent welding, doing carpentry, and landscaping.

    My journey hasn’t been just about acquiring skills though. It’s been about understanding how those skills connect to a bigger picture – sustainable agriculture, to be exact. I’m an avid skier and there’s nothing I enjoy more than being outside, whether it’s on the slopes or in the garden. My passion for growing plants has really taken off, especially when it comes to high tunnel construction. It’s this sweet spot where my practical skills and philosophical musings meet.

    At Steady Harvest, I get to bring all these elements together. It’s all about creating innovative solutions in agriculture that are not only effective but also sustainable. I love that I get to use both my hands and my head to make a real difference in how we approach farming. It’s a journey that keeps on giving, and I’m just excited to see where it takes us next.
